Coeur Mining Inc. said thick zones of high-grade silver, zinc and lead cut during a 44,500-meter drill program at the company's newly acquired Silvertip Mine indicate the robust resource expansion potential of this operation in northern British Columbia. "Results from exploration at Silvertip during the first half of 2018 have demonstrated both the quality of the known resource and the strong potential for significant mine life extensions," said Coeur President and CEO...
Golden Predator Mining Corp. July 26 reported that a 2,500-meter drill program is underway in the Sprogge area of the company's 3 Aces gold project in southeastern Yukon. Sprogge, situated immediately southeast of the original 3 Aces property, was acquired by Golden Predator late in 2017. The Sprogge property blankets favorable structural-stratigraphic contacts similar to those that host the high-grade gold occurrences Golden Predator has outlined in the core zone at 3 Aces. T...
Engineer Gold Mines Ltd. July 31 announced that it has hired Whitehorse-based DeCoors Mining Corp. to carry out a mobile metal ion (MMI) soil geochemical survey on the historic Engineer Gold Mine property about 32 kilometers (20 miles) west of Atlin, in northwestern British Columbia. MMI soil sampling, which detects metal ions released from mineralized material and travel upward toward the surface, has proven to be very effective in delineating near-surface, narrow,...
Aston Bay Holdings Ltd. Aug. 1 said new drill targets at its Seal Zinc deposit on the Aston Bay property on Somerset Island, Nunavut, will be targeted during a drill program to begin later this month. Last year, Aston Bay commissioned a high resolution airborne gravity gradiometry survey, a geophysical technique that measures minute differences in the earth's density to yield information on underground geologic structures, to help identify potential areas of concealed...
White Rock Minerals Ltd. Aug. 1 reported that its reconnaissance exploration has identified several new volcanogenic massive sulfide prospects across its 35,300-acre Red Mountain property in Interior Alaska. The most exciting of these discoveries is Hunter, where a two-foot massive sulfide outcrop rich in sphalerite (zinc mineralization) and galena (lead mineralization) has been discovered. White Rock Minerals said the massive sulfide discovered at Hunter extends for more...
Nova Minerals Ltd. (formerly Quantum Resources Ltd.) July 31 said it plans to complete at least 8,000 meters of drilling over the next six to eight weeks at the Estelle gold-copper-silver project about 100 miles northwest of Anchorage. The Australia-based explorer optioned Estelle late in 2017 as part of a larger deal that included four other Southwest Alaska properties – Chip-Loy, a nickel-copper-cobalt-gold-silver-platinum group element project; Bowser Creek silver-zinc-lead...
Teck Resources Ltd. July 26 reported that the Red Dog Mine in Northwest Alaska produced 153,600 metric tons (338.6 million pounds) of zinc during the second quarter. This is 26 percent more zinc than was produced during the first quarter and a 20 percent increase over the same period last year. Teck Resources President and CEO Don Lindsay attributes the higher zinc output "to higher-grade ore and improved recoveries." The 25,700 metric tons (56.7 million lb) of lead produced...
Kinross Gold Corp. Aug. 1 reported lower gold production and higher costs at its Fort Knox Mine due to lower ore grades and the minor pit wall slide that occurred at this Interior Alaska operation in March. Fort Knox produced 71,463 ounces of gold during the second quarter of 2018, a roughly 22 percent decrease from the 91,237 oz recovered during the same period last year. The per-ounce cost of Fort Knox gold sold during the quarter was US$969, a 53 increase over the US$635...
UPPER KOBUK MINERAL PROJECTS: A two-hour flight northwest of Fairbanks, Alaska lies one of the richest known undeveloped mining districts on Earth. This claim is evidenced by the rich deposits of copper, zinc, lead, cobalt, gold and silver outcropping from the Brooks Range mountains where this district is found; the copper-rich ore extracted from an exploration shaft dug by Kennecott in the 1960s; and the copper and cobalt mineralization that is easy for a journalist to...
Novagold Resources Inc. July 27 announced it has closed the deal to sell Newmont Mining Corp. its 50 percent interest in the Galore Creek copper-gold project in northwestern British Columbia for US$275 million. "I'm very pleased that Novagold is receiving fair value for its interest in Galore Creek and believe that Newmont is the right organization to carry forward the track record of excellence that we have achieved with our partners over the years," said Novagold President...
