Fireweed options more zinc claims in SE Yukon

Fireweed Zinc Ltd. Aug. 8 announced it has signed an Option and Exploration Agreement on Newmont Mining Corp.'s MAC claims, which extends northwest from Fireweed's Macmillan Pass zinc project in southeastern Yukon.

Selwyn Basin, where both properties are located, is known for the sedimentary exhalative zinc‐lead‐silver deposits found there.

The newly optioned MAC claims cover 16,780 hectares (41,460 acres) of the Selwyn Basin, which quadruples the area of Fireweed's Macmillan Pass Project.

These claims cover the projected northwestern extension of the End Zone, which was traced with drilling up the border of the MacMillan Pass property in 1980.

Hole JS80-059, which intersected the End Zone, cut 3.6 percent zinc, 10.2 percent lead and 83.2 grams per metric ton silver over 19.42 meters.

A number of zinc, lead and silver geochemical anomalies have been identified on the MAC property.

Fireweed plans to begin exploration work on the MAC claims this summer with a program of aerial and ground reconnaissance to evaluate the geochemical anomalies as well as the projected extension of the high-grade End Zone onto the property.

The objective of this work is to prioritize areas for future exploration.
