Osisko Metals Inc. June 19 reported results from the remaining holes drilled during the winter drill program at Pine Point and announced the start of a 570-hole summer program at this zinc-lead deposit in Northwest Territories.
The historic Pine Point Mine involved a series of 50 surface and underground deposits along a 60-kilometer (37 miles) trend. In all, Cominco discovered roughly 90 such deposits on the property.
The roughly 700-hole drill program slated for this year is designed to bring the core areas of the project to a drill spacing of roughly 30 meters in order to confirm historical intercepts drilled by Cominco. The information from this and historical drilling incorporated into an NI 43-101-compliant resource estimate.
The core areas being drilled this year are along the Central Zone, a 7.5-kilometer (4.7 miles) chain of deposits that is about 11 kilometers (seven miles) west of an electrical sub-station at Pine Point, and East Mill Zone, a 7.6-kilometer (4.7 miles) area that extends east from the electrical substation area.
The latest batch of results include assays from the Hinge Zone deposit along the Central Zone trend. Cominco reported a historical resource of 1.9 million metric tons averaging 3.8 percent zinc and 0.9 percent lead for Hinge Zone.
Highlights from Osisko's winter drilling at this historical deposit include 7.82 meters of 8.75 percent zinc and 0.49 percent lead in hole HZ-18-PP-008; and 5.1 meters of 9.16 percent zinc and 0.24 percent lead over 5.1 meters in HZ-18-PP-002.
All of the zinc intercepts at Hinge Zone were from surface to a depth of 63 meters.
The company also reported results from drilling in the L27 deposit along the Central Zone.
The best intercept at L27 was 2.7 meters of 16.99 percent zinc and 4.35 percent lead in hole EM-18-PP-092.
All of the reported zinc intercepts in the L27 deposit were from surface to a depth of 30 meters.
Osisko said the results from its drilling so far at Pine Point are compatible with the historical Cominco results that it has compiled.
The company has one drill turning on the property, another two will be joining the summer program shortly and six more rigs drills are scheduled to arrive in early July.
The roughly 570-hole summer program will continue to focus on upgrading historical resource in the East Mill and Central zones.
