Nighthawk Gold Corp. June 24 said it is gearing up to resume an exploration program on its Indin Lake gold property in Canada's Northwest Territories that was put on hiatus in late March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

To determine a course of action for safely resuming exploration, Nighthawk has been in discussions with the territorial government and health officials. Based on recently updated public health orders pertaining to transient workers in the mineral exploration industry who work out of remote camps, the company plans to resume exploration during the second week of July.

Before suspending activities, Nighthawk was about two weeks into a planned 25,000-meter drill program at Indin Lake. When this program restarts, three drills will focus on the continued exploration of Colomac, the flagship project at Indin Lake, as well as some of its more prominent satellite gold targets including Leta Arm and Treasure Island.

"We are eager to resume our exploration efforts to continue to unlock the value from our highly prospective land package," said Nighthawk Gold President and CEO Michael Byron. "In spite of working with a shortened drill season, we are confident that we will be able to complete our originally planned 25,000-meter program. Drilling will be split roughly equally between Colomac and some of our satellite targets that warrant follow-up work. We look forward to providing results of our efforts as they become available."

According to a calculation completed mid-2018, Colomac hosts 50.31 million metric tons of inferred resource averaging 1.62 grams per metric ton (2.6 million ounces) gold.

An updated resource that includes roughly 50,000 meters of drilling completed in 2018 and 2019 is currently underway and is expected in the next few weeks. In addition to resource expansion, it is expected that a portion of the existing inferred resource will be upgraded to the indicated category.
