Previously unknown veins encountered on SE Alaska property North of 60 Mining News – August 21, 2020
Grande Portage Resources Ltd. Aug. 20 reported visible gold in two holes in unexpected veins tapped during the 2020 program at its Herbert Gold project just north of Juneau, Alaska.
These VG intercepts were in two holes – DDH 20T-6 and DDH 20T-7 – drilled 120 meters east of any previous holes targeting the footwall of the Goat Vein and within an area 150 meters south of the vein.
Each hole cut two intervals of quartz veins. The 2.58-meter intercept in DDH 20T-7 included coarse-grained arsenopyrite, galena and pyrite with visible gold over a section of quartz at least six inches. Veins of this quality were previously unknown in this area between the Goat and the Main, partially because there is almost no earlier drilling down this deep and this far east.
Grande Portage geologists feel that these new intercepts likely correlate with a four- to 16-inch-wide vein outcropping on the slope to the south of Goat vein. A grab sample of the vein taken in 2017 returned 19.5 grams per metric ton gold, 408 g/t silver, and 5.37% lead.
The company said this vein apparently strengthens with depth and represents an excellent target for future drilling.
Grande Portage Resources has now completed eight holes at Herbert Gold this summer, has two underway, and plans to complete up to 15 more.
The company said all the holes completed so far have tapped multiple veins, including at least seven intervals with visible gold.
Grande Portage says the turn-around time for assays are extremely lengthy this year and results from the holes it has completed so far are pending.
