Skeena has received assay results from the first three of nearly 50 holes completed since drilling resumed at Eskay Creek.
Skeena Resources Ltd. Aug. 25 reported the discovery of a new Even Lower Mudstone sequence of gold-silver mineralization below the 21A zone at its Eskay Creek mine project in British Columbia's Golden Triangle.
The company has received assay results from the first three of nearly 50 holes drilled at Eskay Creek since the 2020 program resumed there in July.
The six rigs turning at Eskay Creek are primarily focused on resource upgrade drilling ahead of a preliminary feasibility study for the project.
"In September we intend to add two more drill rigs, which will bring our rig count up to eight. Over the next six months we will have a steady stream of assay results from both infill and step-out exploration holes, which should make for an exciting fall," said Skeena Resources CEO Walter Coles Jr.
Highlights from the three infill holes drilled at 21A include:
• 34.4 meters averaging 5.93 grams per metric ton gold and 40 g/t silver in hole SK-20-274.
• 35.4 meters averaging 21.9 g/t gold and 235 g/t silver in SK-20-290.
• 36.5 meters averaging 6.52 g/t gold and 24 g/t silver in SK-20-291.
These three holes were extended to explore the previously drilled Lower Mudstone sequence and the newly discovered Even Lower Mudstone sequence.
This drilling cut 4.2 meters averaging 5.99 g/t gold and 20 g/t silver in the Even Lower Mudstone unit at a vertical depth roughly 200 meters below surface.
Drill holes SK-20-274 and SK-20-291 also intersected weakly anomalous mineralization in the Lower Mudstones, suggesting they are a greater distance from a yet to be discovered feeder and provide support for Skeena's geological concept model.
"This is the first time Skeena has systematically tested the laterally-extensive Lower Mudstone Sequences with exploratory drilling," said Skeena Resources Vice President of Exploration and Resource Development Paul Geddes. "With only three drill holes in a very limited area of the property, we have proven the geological concept model that the LM (Lower Mudstone) and ELM (Even Lower Mudstone), laying below the Contact Mudstone, are mineralized by the same fluids that produced the overlying mining area, and are very prospective. Our ongoing 2020 exploration program will continue to focus on syn-volcanic feeder zones with emphasis on where these feeders intersect all the mudstones, specifically the Lower Mudstones discussed here."
