Outlying target could upgrade, expand Indin Lake resource North of 60 Mining News – August 6, 2021
Nighthawk Gold Corp. Aug. 3 reported that one hole drilled into the high-grade core of the Cass target at Indin Lake cut 51 meters averaging 6.92 grams per metric ton gold, confirming that this area could add both tonnage and grade to the resources established on the Northwest Territories property.
According to a calculation completed earlier this year, Indin Lake hosts 38.7 million metric tons of indicated resource averaging 1.81 g/t (2.25 million ounces) gold and 11.5 million metric tons of inferred resource averaging 2.13 g/t (790,000 oz) gold.
Most of this resource is found at Colomac, the flagship project in the northern half of the 899-square-kilometer (347 square miles) Indin Lake property.
Cass, which lies about 15 kilometers (nine miles) southwest of Colomac, hosts 2.9 million metric tons of historical resource averaging 2.66 g/t (245,311 oz) gold. Drilling carried out by Nighthawk in 2014 extended the gold mineralized corridor at Cass by 700 meters, where it remains open along strike and to depth.
"At the start of the year we outlined a new strategy looking at targets that could not only contribute to increasing the global resource base, but also increasing the average resource grade," said Nighthawk Gold President and CEO Keyvan Salehi. "Cass very quickly became a top target for us, given the historical drilling results and the possibility for expansion not only along strike but at depth."
In addition to hole CM21-12, which cut the 51 meters of 6.92 g/t gold, including a 19.5-meter subsection averaging 11.31 g/t gold, the latest batch of assays includes eight other holes drilled into the eastern extension area at Cass.
Highlights from these holes include 8.2 meters averaging 1.1 g/t gold in CM21-04; and 15.25 meters averaging 1.78 g/t gold in CM21-06.
"The results clearly demonstrate the presence of a continuous high-grade core which appears open at depth, offering both easily accessible open pit potential as well as underground possibilities," said Salehi. "The current drill results including the eastern extension, continue to return significant near-surface mineralization. We look forward to providing additional results from the phase I program at Cass as they become available."
To date, Nighthawk has completed 35,000 meters of a planned 75,000-meter initial phase of 2021 drilling at Indin Lake.
There are currently two drills at Fishhook, a target near the southern end of Indin Lake; one testing a western expansion area at Cass; another at Albatross, which lies immediately southwest of Cass; and one rig at the 24/27 zones within the Colomac project area.
