Spring drilling taps gold in Hook zone below Goose deposit North of 60 Mining News – August 13, 2021
Sabina Gold & Silver Corp. Aug. 10 reported that its spring drill program at its Back River gold project in Nunavut has encountered strong mineralization at Hook, a zone that appears to link the surfacing Goose and much deeper Nuvuyak gold deposits.
Back River hosts 33.45 million metric tons of measured and indicated resources averaging 5.88 grams per metric ton (6.32 million oz) gold, and 13.79 million metric tons of inferred resource averaging 6.44 g/t (2.86 million oz) gold in seven deposits.
The Goose deposit hosts 548,000 oz of gold in open-pit and underground proven reserves averaging 4.60 g/t, plus 301,000 oz of gold in open pit and underground probable reserves averaging 4.96 g/t. The Nuvuyak deposit hosts 583,000 oz of gold in 2.42 million metric tons of inferred resource averaging 7.5 g/t gold.
The Hook zone targeted with four holes drilled this spring encompasses a 450-meter gap between these deposits.
The best hole, 21GSE600, cut 28.05 meters averaging 5.42 g/t gold, including 5.3 meters averaging 12.68 g/t gold.
Highlights from the other three holes testing Hook during the spring program include 15.55 meters averaging 1.67 g/t gold in hole 21GSE590, 8.5 meters averaging 10.05 g/t gold in 21GSE598B, and 10.3 meters averaging 1.72 g/t gold in 21GSE599.
Sabina says the mineralization drilled at Hook offers a key link in unlocking the trend between Goose and Nuvuyak by identifying a robust area for potential resource growth through further exploration.
"The ability to demonstrate significant resource growth potential such a short distance from our proposed mining infrastructure is a tremendous success and further testament to the Goose property gold endowment," said Sabina Gold President and CEO Bruce McLeod. "Our Hook target is located within the shadows of the Goose Main open pit and provides opportunities for exceptional alignment as we advance both exploration and development synergies for the entire southern Goose Main-Hook-Nuvuyak gold trend."
This trend extends 1,500 meters from the top of the surfacing Goose deposit to the lower depths of Nuvuyak, which remains open to depth.
In addition to the drilling at Hook, the 4,480-meter spring drill program at the Goose property is now complete with all drill holes totaling 4,480 meters, which included 12 holes testing earlier staged target areas and six geotechnical holes.
