Visible gold observed in six of the first eight holes this year North of 60 Mining News – August 27, 2021
Brixton Metals Corp. Aug. 23 announced that visible gold has been encountered in six of the first eight holes drilled during the company's maiden drill program at the Trapper target at its 1,000-square-mile (2,600 square kilometers) Thorn gold-copper-silver project in British Columbia's Golden Triangle.
"The discovery of visible gold in drilling is obviously exciting for us," said Brixton Metals President and CEO Gary Thompson.
Earlier this year, Brixton discovered previously unrecognized VG while relogging core from 2011 drilling by a previous explorer at Trapper, a volcanic-hosted epithermal target about five miles (eight kilometers) southeast of the Camp Creek porphyry target also being drilled this year by Brixton.
This led Brixton geologists to discover VG at a previously unexplored outcrop along the east side of Inlaw Creek and about 500 meters down the hill from the relogged holes with VG in core.
The VG observed in both core and outcrop coincides with a large resistivity low feature identified during 1,072 line-kilometers of magnetic and mobile magnetotelluric geophysical surveys flown over Trapper, Camp Creek, and two other gold and copper target areas at Thorn.
"The mobile MT survey completed earlier this season identified a large, deep seated resistivity anomaly immediately north of our current drilling," said Brixton Metals Vice President of Exploration Christina Anstey.
Prior to the start of drilling, Brixton geologists collected 342 rock samples over new zones of gold and copper mineralization identified at Trapper. Additionally, 394 soil samples were collected over the deep-seated geophysical anomaly.
"In 2021, we have completed systematic soil and rock sampling in this previously unexplored area," said Anstey. "The visible gold and the occurrence of bornite associated with the geophysical anomaly indicate the potential existence of a large-scale, linked porphyry-epithermal system that may be related to the Chivas Target, located along trend to the northwest."
Brixton has constructed five drill pads at Trapper thus far, with multiple holes being drilled from each pad location.
The company has observed 12 visible gold intercepts in six of the eight holes drilled so far. This VG was encountered over a strike length of 550 meters and for 200 meters down-dip. Mineralization remains open and includes numerous near surface gold intercepts.
"We knew that VG was present in the few historic holes in the area that we relogged early in the season, but it is encouraging to see the broad distribution of gold along strike and at depth," said Thompson.
Assays are pending from the sampling and drilling completed at Trapper so far this year.
The Trapper Gold Target is one of fourteen prospective zones at Brixton's Thorn project in northwestern BC, about 55 miles (90 kilometers) northeast of Juneau, Alaska.
