Initial work at Powerline, then late summer work at Aurex Hill North of 60 Mining News – February 4, 2022
Banyan Gold Corp. Feb. 2 announced the start of a 30,000-meter drill program at AurMac in the Yukon that is focused on the continued expansion of the Powerline deposit and Aurex Hill zone on this gold exploration project about 40 kilometers (25 miles) south of Victoria Gold Corp.'s Eagle Gold Mine.
"Exploration at the AurMac property has now resumed with three diamond drill rigs..." said Banyan Gold President and CEO Tara Christie. "The initial focus is the expansion of the Powerline deposit and, late summer, on the Aurex Hill target."
According to a resource calculated in 2020, AurMac hosts 52.58 million metric tons in the inferred resource category averaging 0.52 grams per metric ton (774,926 oz) gold in two deposits – Powerline and Airstrip.
Powerline hosts 6.58 million metric tons in the inferred resource category averaging 0.61 g/t (129,019 oz) gold while Airstrip hosts the bulk of the project's resource at 46 million metric tons of inferred resource averaging 0.52 g/t (774,926 oz) gold.
In 2021, step-out drilling to the east and west of Powerline outlined a near- and on-surface zone of gold trend that is interpreted to have grade continuity over 1,200 meters of strike length.
A section of this zone has been drilled at 25-meter centers in a 200- by 200-meter area to test the continuity along strike and down dip. Presently, results are still pending for these holes. However, testing of this trend to the east and west will be a major focus of this year's drill program.
"We continue to receive assay results from our 2021 drill program which concluded in late December and expect to receive those through April," said Christie. "We are excited with our planned 30,000-meter drill program for 2022 all of which will target to add ounces at AurMac."
Gold mineralization at Powerline and Aurex Hill is interpreted to be hosted in a sub-horizontal quartz vein system that dips approximately 15 degrees to the north-northwest.
This vein system is hosted in a siliceous package of rocks that can be traced for approximately 16 km (10 mi) within the AurMac property boundaries.
Another focus of the 2022 season, is to refine the structural controls on the vein-hosted gold within a package of resistive rocks identified with a geophysical survey flown for Newmont Exploration in 2020 and use this to improve drill targets.
