Sitka Gold Corp. Jan. 11 announced the assay results for the final drill holes of its 2022 drill program at the company's RC Gold project in Yukon's Tombstone Belt, including one hole that Sitka says is one of the best drilled to date.
"The 2022 step-out drilling at RC Gold was extremely rewarding for Sitka with the results of these latest drill holes highlighting the tremendous potential of the Blackjack zone, which was just discovered in December 2021," said Sitka Gold CEO Cor Coe.
Located within the central region of Canada's Yukon Territory, the RC Gold project is roughly midway between Sabre Gold Mines Corp.'s Brewery Creek mine project and Victoria Gold Corp.'s Eagle gold mine.
At approximately 37,700 hectares (93,000 acres), this highly fertile and largely underexplored land package is situated about 100 kilometers (62 miles) east of Dawson City, at the headwaters of Clear Creek and Big Creek, a major placer mining district that is serviced by a network of gravel roads and trails.
Connected by one such gravel road, which in turn is connected to the Clear Creek Road which then connects to the Klondike Highway, the contiguous RC Gold project claim block is strategically located within the heart of the Tombstone Gold Belt and comprises the RC Gold, Mahtin, Clear Creek, and Barney Ridge properties.
After undertaking a sizable drill program in 2022, the final results are in and Sitka could not be more pleased.
Highlights from the last round of assays include:
• 201 meters averaging 1.26 grams per metric ton gold from surface in hole DDRCCC-22-040, including 82 meters averaging 2.04 g/t gold from surface, 19.5 meters averaging 4.87 g/t gold from surface, and two meters averaging 31.2 g/t gold from a depth of 16 meters.
• 10 meters of 0.6 g/t gold from a depth 357 meters in DDRCCC-22-039, including 12 meters averaging 0.52 g/t gold from 336 meters, and three meters averaging 0.97 g/t gold from 458 meters.
"DDRCCC-22-040 is one of the best holes we have drilled to date at RC gold with the entire 201-meter length averaging 1.26 grams per metric ton gold including 82 meters grading 2.04 g/t gold and 19.5 meters of 4.87 g/t gold from the casing at surface," said Coe. "Several other impressive intervals including two meters of 31.2 g/t gold were encountered throughout the hole which also contained visible gold."
Taking up the mantle in 2019, Sitka has been pursuing this highly prospective target with several drill programs. Drilling to date has produced long intercepts with significant gold grades and has confirmed the continuity of significant and persistent gold mineralization within the Blackjack zone to surface, which remains open in all directions and demonstrates significantly higher grades of gold mineralization within the intrusion host rock.
The majority of drilling at RC has been designed to provide the spatial requirements to estimate an initial resource.
"Our winter and summer diamond drilling programs last year were successful in demonstrating the continuity of strong and persistent gold mineralization throughout the Blackjack zone, which remains open in all directions," the Sitka CEO said. "With the potential to also link gold mineralization for up to 2 kilometres across both the Saddle and Eiger zones, we are eager to aggressively add potential tonnage and unlock additional value with continued exploration at our quickly evolving, district scale, and road accessible RC Gold project."
While the ground may still be frozen, Sitka is planning a two-part, winter and summer drilling program at RC Gold totaling 10,000 meters for 2023, which will focus primarily on the Blackjack, Saddle, and Eiger zone areas.
