Fireweed reports assays keep continuity

Howard Pass-style mineralization, property-wide potential North of 60 Mining News – February 17, 2023

Fireweed Metals Corp. Feb. 15 announced additional assay results from the 2022 drill program at Boundary West on the company's Macmillan Pass project, including several significant step-outs that demonstrate the target zone carries good grade and continuity.

A road-accessible project in eastern Yukon near the border with Northwest Territories, the 544-square-kilometer (210 square miles) Macmillan Pass project blankets a roughly 55-kilometer- (34 miles) long trend of zinc, lead, and silver mineralization.

While the flagship property already has two established zinc deposits, in recent years, Fireweed has been keeping its sights on the Boundary zone – in particular, Boundary West.

At the beginning of 2021, the company reported a long intercept of strong zinc and silver mineralization in the discovery hole at Boundary West, which immediately became the focus of drilling for Fireweed.

After hitting its best intercept ever on the property in November, Fireweed has eagerly awaited the remaining results from its program at Boundary West. The latest results come from three holes.

Hole NB22-004 intersected a zone of stratiform zinc-lead-silver mineralization averaging 2.6% zinc, 1.5% lead, and 26.5 grams per metric ton silver over 28 meters. A 0.65-meter subsection of this intercept cut high-grade sphalerite veining averaging 28.5% zinc within a sequence of conglomerates, similar in style to Boundary Main.

This hole was designed to target a step-out from the impressive 124 meters averaging 12.3% zinc, 1.3% lead, and 45.9 g/t silver cut in hole NB22-002 – Fireweed's best intercept at Macmillan Pass – but had to be abandoned short of the target due to excessive drill hole deviation; thus, the step-out remains untested.

NB22-007 intersected four meters of semi-massive sulfide mineralization averaging 5.2% zinc and 11 g/t silver, representing an approximate 30-meter step-out up dip from the newly discovered zone reported in NB22-002.

NB22-007 also intersected a zone of massive sulfide over 7.3 meters averaging 10.7% zinc, 1.7% lead, and 75.1 g/t silver, including 3.8 meters averaging 15.5% zinc, 1.8% lead, and 94.9 g/t silver.

Finally, infill hole NB22-019 cut 56.5 meters averaging 6.3% zinc, 0.4% lead, and 36.4 g/t silver within the massive sulfide zone at Boundary West, including two distinct high-grade zones – 11.6 meters averaging 10.9% zinc, 0.3% lead, and 43.5 g/t silver; and 13 meters averaging 9.6% zinc, 0.7% lead, and 48.2 g/t silver.

NB22-019 also cut 15.6 meters averaging 2.6% zinc in what is considered a step-out of the Howard Pass style mineralization at Boundary.

"These results from the 2022 Boundary West drilling program include several significant step-outs and demonstrate that the massive sulphide zone carries good grade and continuity," said Fireweed Metals CEO Brandon Macdonald. "We hit another intersection in the Howard's Pass style mineralization in older rock units for which we see further potential across the property. Results are pending from many of the 2022 drillholes that intersected wide intervals of intense sphalerite-galena mineralization at Boundary Main and the Tom deposit."

The pending assays from the 2022 drill program include 12 holes from Boundary Main, eight holes from Tom West and one hole from Tom East.
