Drills tap gold on NW edge of Dolphin-Cleary at Golden Summit North of 60 Mining News – July 21, 2023
Freegold Ventures Ltd. July 20 reported that holes testing the northwest boundaries of Dolphin-Cleary are continuing to hit gold along the margins of this 19.7-million-ounce gold deposit on the company's Golden Summit project about 25 miles north of Fairbanks, Alaska.
So far, the company has outlined 407.54 million metric tons of open-pit mineable indicated resource averaging 0.92 grams per metric ton (12 million oz) gold, plus 282.3 million metric tons of open-pit mineable inferred resource averaging 0.85 g/t (7.7 million oz) gold.
Freegold launched its resource upgrade and expansion drill program at Golden Summit in March that began by testing the northwest boundary of the Dolphin zone, where mineralization is trending toward the surface. Finding near-surface gold in this area could help reduce the strip ratio for a future open-pit mine at Dolphin-Cleary.
In June, the company reported that the first hole of the 2023 season, GS2301, cut 56.7 meters averaging 1.02 g/t gold 400 meters beyond the northernmost hole previously drilled.
The latest batch of assays includes two holes that cut gold along the northwest edge of Dolphin-Cleary.
GS2305 cut 1.6 meters averaging 17.65 g/t gold from a depth of 130.7 meters before hitting 24 meters of 0.86 g/t gold from 184.6 meters.
GS2307, drilled 100 meters west of GS2305, cut two meters averaging 15.15 g/t gold.
The best intercept in this batch of Golden Summit assays came in GS2306, which was drilled about 300 meters south of GS2307. This hole cut 256 meters averaging 1.01 g/t gold from a depth of 322.2 meters.
So far this year, Freegold has completed 24 holes, most of which are collared north and west of the Dolphin zone, and three more are currently underway.
In addition to drilling the northwest margins of Dolphin-Cleary, the company plans to test a significant gold-in-soil geochemical anomaly that extends 1,500 meters west of the 1,400- by 800-meter deposit outlined so far.
In addition to the resource upgrade and expansion program at Dolphin-Cleary, the company plans to carry out initial drilling at the Saddle zone about 4,000 meters east of the resource.
To help refine drill targets at Saddle, Freegold recently had a 332-line-kilometer MobileMT survey flown at Golden Summit. MobileMT is a passive airborne geophysical technique that utilizes naturally occurring electromagnetic fields to map variations in the subsurface resistivity providing information to depths greater than 1000 meters. The data from these surveys is useful for defining large structures and boundaries of geological domains, which Freegold plans to use for enhancing current targets for drilling at Saddle, which is slated to begin later this summer.
