First exploration in 100 years, first diamond drilling at target North of 60 Mining News – August 4, 2023
Blackwolf Copper and Gold Ltd. July 28 announced the launch of its maiden drill program at the company's Cantoo Mountain project on the Alaskan side of British Columbia's famed Golden Triangle.
Situated immediately east of the Premier gold-silver mining project currently in development by Ascot Resources Ltd. and likely part of the same metallogenic system, the Cantoo property hosts multiple shallow southwest dipping vein structures up to 30 meters true thickness.
Just a stone's throw from the border towns of Hyder, Alaska, and Stewart, British Columbia, this once historical site that shut down during the stock market crash of 1929 has historical literature that describes an upper gold-rich vein and a lower silver-rich vein, with a single historic sample from the upper collected by U.S. Geological Survey geologists in 1995 assaying 27.4 grams per metric ton gold.
Samples collected during 2021 from Cantoo include 0.82 g/t gold, 418 g/t silver, 0.41% copper, 16.2% lead, and 0.08% zinc, as well as 1.99 g/t gold, 9.7 g/t silver, 0.27% copper, 1.06% lead, and 0.24% zinc.
With drilling soon to be underway, this maiden program will mark the first modern exploration effort at Cantoo since the 1920s and the first-ever diamond drill program testing multiple stacked shallow-dipping vein structures and breccia, including a 30-meter-wide vein.
Blackwolf's preliminary inspection of this vein returned high-grade results of up to 30.4 g/t gold, 2,860 g/t silver, and 5.8% copper outcropping at surface.
The initial drill program is slated to include up to 2,000 meters in four drill holes, with initial results expected early September.
"We are proud to commence this drill program, a testament to our commitment to unlocking the potential of this promising location," said recently appointed Blackwolf Copper and Gold CEO Morgan Lekstrom. "Cantoo stands out as one of the most compelling untested drill targets in the Golden Triangle. Notably, it lies just approximately 600 meters away from the Premier Mine on the Canadian side of the border. As we know, geology transcends boundaries and borders, and in this prolific region, which is also home to the renowned Brucejack Mine (acquired in 2021 for $2.8 billion) and numerous other significant mining endeavors, we are poised to unveil the hidden treasures that lie beneath its surface."
