Skeena investigates hidden Hoodoo project

North of 60 Mining News - February 9, 2024

Aims for inaugural drilling of new copper-gold prospect in B.C.'s Golden Triangle later this year.

Skeena Resources Ltd. Feb. 8 announced plans for 14,000 meters of drilling on its earlier-staged exploration properties in the Golden Triangle, including the 74,633-hectare (184,422 acres) Hoodoo copper-gold project about 50 kilometers (30 miles) northwest of the company's Eskay Creek gold-silver mine project.

Located about midway between Skeena's high-grade Snip gold project and the world-class Galore Creek copper-gold mine project being advanced by a joint venture between Teck Resources Ltd. and Newmont Corp., the enormous Hoodoo gold property staked by Skeena last October covers a completely overlooked copper-gold target.

"Remarkably, this ground was unclaimed mineral tenure with virtually no historical exploration despite possessing very high prospectivity for alkalic porphyry deposits," Skeena inked in the press release announcing its 2024 regional exploration plans.

Such alkalic porphyry deposits in B.C.'s Golden Triangle, such as the Galore Creek deposit to the north, are particularly attractive exploration targets based on the atypically high concentrations of gold alongside the copper, silver, and molybdenum.

Right away, Skeena plans to carry out a large magnetic geophysical survey and data compilation for Hoodoo in preparation for an inaugural drill program in the second half of the year.

The company's regional program will also include drilling at KSP, a gold-copper project about 15 kilometers (nine miles) southwest of Snip.

In addition to its regional program, Skeena plans to conduct a seismic survey at Eskay Creek this summer.

Previous operators have proven that conventional geophysical methods, such as electromagnetics and induced polarization, cannot directly discern Eskay Creek gold-silver mineralization. This is why Skeena is investigating the potential for seismic surveying to target this mineralization indirectly.

The company hopes the seismic survey will define the rift and contact mudstone at depth that is critical for hosting Eskay-style deposits. The company adds that future Eskay Deeps drilling will be driven by the results of the seismic survey.
