Spectacular copper-PGM grades at Muskox

North of 60 Mining News - September 11, 2024

Geologists collect high-grade copper-nickel-PGM samples from enormous Norilsk-style project in Nunavut.

SPC Nickel Corp. Sept. 9 announced that surface sampling at Muskox has turned up grades as high as 19.5% copper, 9.42% nickel and 107.3 grams per metric ton platinum group metals on this roughly 250-square-mile (650 square kilometers) project in Kitikmeot region of western Nunavut.

The company's Muskox property covers a large section of a roughly 90-mile- (150 kilometers) long nickel-bearing mafic to ultramafic intrusion discovered by Inco in the 1950s.

The company staked claims over this large intrusion in 2021 and, at the same time, acquired a comprehensive database that represents more than 15 years of exploration over four multi-year programs that date back to 1955.

Based on historical data and its own fieldwork, SPC believes this district-scale property covers "one of the last true camp-scale nickel-copper opportunities in North America," comparable to other world-class nickel-copper-PGM regions such as Norilsk in Russia's Siberia and Voisey's Bay in Canada's Newfoundland and Labrador.

This year, SPC geologists carried out a two-week prospecting, sampling, and mapping program to evaluate several priority targets identified while analyzing historical data and satellite imagery of the Muskox property.

The company reports high-grade copper-nickel-PGM mineralization in rock samples collected from three targets – Equinox, Pyrrhotite Lake, and Speers Lake.

SPC Nickel investigated several high-priority targets this summer on the North Block of its Muskox project.

Highlights from this sampling include:

19.5% copper, 0.06% copper, 6.4 grams per metric ton palladium, 0.87 g/t platinum, and 0.41 g/t gold (Equinox).

12.4% copper 0.04% nickel, 3.85 g/t palladium, 0.96 g/t platinum, and 0.58 g/t gold (Speers Lake).

9.21% copper, 9.42% nickel, 11.1 g/t palladium, 0.54 g/t platinum, and 0.41 g/t gold (Equinox).

9.02% copper, 0.11% nickel, 1.88 g/t palladium, 0.03 g/t platinum, and 0.29 g/t gold (Pyrrhotite Lake).

7.89% copper, 0.26% nickel, 93.1 g/t palladium, 6.69 g/t platinum, and 7.57 g/t gold (Equinox).

6.79% copper, 1.19% nickel, 4.82 g/t palladium, 0.54 g/t platinum, and 0.99 g/t gold (Speers Lake).

"The presence of high-grade copper-PGM footwall veins with values up to 19.5% Cu and multiple ounces of PGM's is truly spectacular and uncommon outside of the known Ni-Cu-PGM districts," said SPC Nickel President and CEO Grant Mourre. "Our field work at Muskox, including this most recent program, has significantly advanced our understanding of the opportunity and leads us to conclude that previous exploration has only scratched the surface of the true potential of the Muskox Intrusion."
