Metso expands its mining services to BC

North of 60 Mining News - September 20, 2024

New service center being built in St. George puts global mining solutions company on Golden Triangle's doorstep.

Metso Corp. Sept. 18 announced that it is investing $6.7 million (C$9 million) in a new service center in Prince George, British Columbia.

Finland-based Metso is a global company that provides end-to-end solutions and services for the aggregates, minerals processing, and metals refining industries on six continents.

City of Prince George

Located about 300 miles north of Vancouver and about the same distance southeast of the Golden Triangle, Prince George offers a centralized location for Metso's mining service center in B.C.

The Prince George service center, Metso's first in western Canada, will support a wide range of mining equipment from pit to port, including filters, flotation cells, grinding mills, crushers, screens, pumps, and apron feeders.

"The new service center enhances our ability to deliver OEM-certified on-site inspections, turnkey service solutions, and off-site repairs," said Justin Ayotte, the company's vice president of sales and service in Canada.

The central B.C. locale of Metso's newest service center will allow the global frontrunner in sustainable technologies to support existing mining operations across the province and position the company on the doorstep of the Golden Triangle.

"Strategically located near a key mining region, it enables faster repair times, shorter turnaround, and sustainability benefits by reducing transportation distances. We will also offer comprehensive field service support to better serve our customers."

The B.C. mine service center is the latest step in Metso's growth in North America.

Late last year, the company launched an expansion of its service center in Mesa, Arizona. In addition to increasing the repair shop area by nearly 60%, this expansion includes a state-of-the-art training center on the same property to bridge the knowledge gap between people, equipment, and operational goals in the region. The service center expansion and the training center are expected to be completed by the end of next year.

Metso says its new Prince George service center, which is expected to open in the second half of next year, will create jobs in the central B.C. city, including service engineers and technical experts.
