Gladiator begins defining core prospects

North of 60 Mining News - October 16, 2024

Wraps drilling at several targets, awaits results from majority of holes.

Gladiator Metals Corp. Oct. 15 announced the completion of planned drilling at several of its prospects within the Whitehorse Copper project in Yukon, Canada, with a single rig remaining at the Cub Trend, which the company expects to return to a previous target before the season is out.

Situated just outside Yukon's capital city, Whitehorse Copper is a copper-molybdenum-silver-gold skarn exploration project that covers 5,280 hectares (13,294 acres) of the historically productive Whitehorse Copper Belt.

The 35-kilometer (22-mile) by five-kilometer (three-mile) high-grade copper belt, which holds at least 30 known prospective targets, produced approximately 267.5 million pounds of copper, 225,000 ounces of gold, and 2.84 million ounces of silver from 11.1 million tons of skarn ore between 1967 and 1982.

Gladiator Metals kicked off its 2024 exploration season early in the year at the Chiefs Trend, encompassing Middle Chief and Little Chief, targeting significant unmined copper-gold skarn mineralization over more than 700 meters of strike.

Following the Chiefs Trend, drilling shifted to Cowley Park to target extensions of known high-grade copper skarn mineralization before moving on to Arctic Chief and Best Chance to explore and validate the potential of historically productive copper-gold zones within the broader Whitehorse Copper project.

As the season progressed, Gladiator received its first assays from the Chiefs Trend in May. These early results confirmed significant widths of high-grade copper skarn mineralization, providing a strong foundation for the company's continued focus on this prospect; highlights included:

13.75 meters averaging 2.71% copper and 1.39 g/t gold from a depth of 256 meters in LCG-003 to end of hole, which failed in 0.25 meters averaging 2.76% copper and 0.28 g/t gold.

22 meters averaging 1.41% copper and 0.28 g/t gold from 208 meters in LCG-001D1.

Six meters averaging 1.56 % copper and 1.06 g/t gold from 213 meters in LCG-001, and 16 meters averaging 1.29% copper and 0.61 g/t gold from 249 meters.

After the early results from Middle Chief, the next set of assays came in several months later from Cowley Park, providing further insight into the high-grade copper skarn mineralization of this historic target. Highlights included:

Eight meters averaging 2.57% copper and 0.15% molybdenum from a depth of eight meters in hole CPG-035, and 14 meters averaging 1.31% copper from 72 meters.

Thirty meters averaging 1.48% copper and 0.13% molybdenum from 56 meters in CPG-032, within 48 meters averaging 1.08% copper from 38 meters.

Ten meters averaging 3.64% copper from 35.2 meters in CP-140, within 45 meters averaging 1.36% copper from 29 meters.

"Assay results returned continue to define the near surface continuity and scale of high-grade copper skarn mineralization at Cowley Park," said Gladiator Metals CEO Jason Bontempo. "These assay results also importantly provide further definition to the potentially significant coincident molybdenum-gold and silver mineralization which materially increases the potential value where credits can be applied."

With the majority of the company's 13,000-meter program completed, including maiden drilling at prospects such as Best Chance and Arctic Chief, Gladiator Metals has made significant progress in advancing its Whitehorse Copper project.

At Best Chance, seven holes totaling 1,295 meters were drilled, intersecting broad widths of mineralized skarn. These holes have been submitted for analysis, with results pending, along with those from Arctic Chief.

"Our maiden drill programs at Best Chance and Arctic Chief to date are showing broad widths of skarn mineralization which continue to validate the prospectivity of the 35-kilometre-long Whitehorse Copper Belt, delivering multiple prospects for potential future resource growth," said Bontempo. "We now look forward to assay results to help plan much anticipated follow-up drill programs at the Best Chance and Arctic Chief prospects."

Initial drilling at Cowley Park saw 32 holes totaling 5,623 meters, with assay results already highlighting several significant intervals. Results from 28 of those holes remain pending.

The company plans to return to Cowley after drilling is completed at Cub Trend, where an induced polarization (IP) geophysical survey has identified targets at the Black Cub and Gem prospects.

These include potential extensions near the historic Black Cub South pit, where past drilling intersected 30.51 meters at 1.2% copper, and at Gem, with historical results of 16.61 meters at 2.59% copper.

With drilling completed at multiple prospects and core areas such as Cowley Park, Chiefs Trend, Arctic Chief, and the Cub Trend beginning to take shape, Gladiator is steadily delineating its high-grade copper resources across the belt.
