Fireweed Metals Corp. Nov. 28 announced results from its 2024 drilling campaign at the Macpass project in Yukon, with drilling at Tom South confirming significant high-grade mineralization close to the surface, while step-out drilling at Jason Main established continuity beyond the existing resource.
Spanning approximately 977 square kilometers (377 square miles) and located roughly 200 kilometers (124 miles) south of Ross River, Yukon, the Macpass project encompasses a 55-kilometer (34 miles) trend of zinc, lead, silver, and copper mineralization, with road access along the Macmillan-Hess fault corridor near the Northwest Territories border.
Earlier this year, an updated resource estimate for the Macpass Project defined four primary zones of mineralization – Tom, Jason, Boundary, and End Zone – which together account for 56 million metric tons of indicated resources averaging 5.49% (6.78 billion pounds) zinc, 1.58% (1.95 billion lb) lead, and 24.2 grams per metric ton (43.54 million ounces) silver, along with 48.49 million metric tons of inferred resources averaging 5.15% (5.5 billion lb) zinc, 2.08% (2.23 billion lb) lead, and 25.3 g/t (39.42 million oz) silver.
With encouraging early results driving momentum, Fireweed Metals Corp. expanded its initially planned 14,000-meter drill program to over 17,000 meters, with the original focus including step-out drilling at the Tom, Jason, and Boundary zones, along with testing new regional exploration targets.
The expanded campaign not only sought to enhance the existing resource base but also to identify new zones of mineralization, including new greenfield targets defined through regional exploration efforts.
Drilling at Tom South yielded the first significant results for this zone this year, confirming high-grade mineralization close to the surface. Highlights from these intercepts include:
• 15.12 meters (10 meters true width) averaging 10.39% zinc, 18.1% lead, and 296.9 g/t silver in hole TS24-002, including 8.15 meters (5.4 meters true width) averaging 12.76% zinc, 22.44% lead, and 361.4 g/t silver.
• 18.15 meters (11 meters true width) averaging 9.02% zinc, 7.46% lead, and 148.3 g/t silver in hole TS24-001, including 8.32 meters (5.0 meters true width) averaging 16.18% zinc, 13.52% lead, and 278.8 g/t silver.
• 6.2 meters (4.3 meters true width) averaging 12.51% zinc, 12.06% lead, and 191.1 g/t silver in hole TS24-001D4, including 4.65 meters (3.2 meters true width) averaging 14.83% zinc, 14.29% lead, and 224.4 g/t silver.
The company says these results will build on the geological understanding developed during previous drilling seasons, highlighting the potential for expanding high-grade resources up-dip and extending continuity of mineralization.
Meanwhile, step-out drilling at Jason Main demonstrated consistent mineralization beyond the existing resource area, adding valuable data for future resource expansion and indicating further potential at depth. Highlights include:
• 28.02 meters (8.3 meters true width) averaging 7.1% zinc, 1.41% lead, and 5.6 g/t silver in hole JS24-002, including 12.90 meters (3.8 meters true width) averaging 11.3% zinc, 2.74% lead, and 10.3 g/t silver.
"The consistent high-grade intercepts at Tom South reinforce that the feeder zone in this area continues to define Tom as one of the most prolific known concentrations of zinc, lead, and silver in the Macpass District, with spectacular grades representing intersections comprised almost entirely of sphalerite and galena," said Fireweed Metals President and CEO Peter Hemstead. "TS24-002 represents the nearest-to-surface and highest-grade intercept at Tom South to date, with a broad distance of 200 metres remaining open for testing the up-dip projection of this high-grade mineralized panel towards previous historical drilling. The feeder style mineralization intersected at Tom South is one of several localized zones at Tom that have very high silver grades, further enhancing the overall commodity mix of this deposit."
Fireweed Metals has released results from 25 of the 49 holes drilled in 2024. Assay results for the remaining holes will be released as they are received, analyzed, and confirmed.
