Sitka Gold Corp. Dec. 2 announced the confirmation and extension of a significant reduced intrusion-related gold system (RIRGS) at its May-Qu target within the flagship RC Gold Project in Yukon, with surface rock samples returning up to 31.7 grams per metric ton gold, highlighting the potential scale and importance of this discovery.
Located 22 kilometers (15 miles) east of the Blackjack deposit within the Bos Stock of the Tombstone Suite, the May-Qu target is part of Sitka's flagship RC Gold project in Yukon, Canada.
Initial exploration at this intrusion-hosted gold target began in 2022 with a single diamond drill hole. Though details of the results have not been highlighted, this initial drilling represented a crucial step in assessing May-Qu's potential within the broader RC Gold property.
As part of its 2024 exploration program, Sitka revisited the May-Qu target, building on its initial 2022 efforts. This year's systematic sampling and mapping not only confirmed but expanded the presence of a significant reduced intrusion-related gold system at this promising target.
"We are very encouraged by the significant results generated from our systematic regional exploration efforts at RC Gold this season which culminated in the identification of another large reduced intrusion-related gold system at May-Qu and newly defined drill targets at both May-Qu and Mahtin, located on the eastern portion of our 431 square kilometres claim block at RC Gold," said Sitka Gold CEO. "Results from surface sampling of sheeted quartz veins at May-Qu returned strong gold values of up to 31.7 g/t gold and extended this zone of sheeted quartz veins to over 400 metres wide, further highlighting the scale and fertility of this district-scale land package."
A total of 36 samples were collected, ranging from trace amounts to 31.7 g/t gold, with three samples exceeding 1 g/t gold. These samples were part of a focused program of mapping, prospecting, and soil sampling designed to evaluate the Bos Stock for its potential to host gold mineralization.
The most notable results came from a northeast-trending ridgeline on the southeastern edge of the Bos Stock, where six samples taken over a 480-meter (1,575-foot) area returned gold values between 0.37 and 31.7 g/t. The mineralization was found in areas with clusters of quartz veins and traces of sulfides within the rock.
Historical exploration within the eastern RC Gold project area included geophysical surveys and soil sampling. Analysis of this historical data informed the identification of drill targets at May-Qu and Mahtin, as well as other prospective zones within the property.
Additional sampling about 1,500 meters to the north also returned promising results, with two samples showing gold values of 1.08 and 0.94 g/t.
"While our focus has primarily been within the Clear Creek Intrusive Complex and the Blackjack gold deposit area, approximately 22 kilometres to the northwest, the positive results of this regional exploration program indicate impressive, widespread gold mineralization is present across this largely-underexplored property, where 11 intrusions with associated gold mineralization have been identified to date," added Coe. "We look forward to additional follow-up at these targets as part of our largest ever work program at RC Gold, where up to 30,000 metres of diamond drilling are planned for 2025."
In addition to its exploration work at May-Qu, Sitka conducted mapping and prospecting at the Mahtin and Alp target areas. At Mahtin, 12 rock samples were collected, returning values ranging from trace amounts to 11.05 g/t gold. Notable findings included a calc-silicate skarn sample with 11.05 g/t gold and a granodiorite boulder with iron-oxide fractures and a quartz vein returning 0.38 g/t gold.
At the Alp target, seven rock samples returned values up to 0.13 g/t gold. Additionally, 298 grid soil samples were collected, yielding gold values up to 148.2 parts per billion. This soil sampling outlined a northwest-trending gold anomaly spanning 850 meters, coinciding with elevated levels of arsenic, bismuth, and tellurium, suggesting the potential for a buried Tombstone Suite intrusion.
Assay results from the final six diamond drill holes of the 2024 exploration program, completed earlier this fall, are still pending. These results, covering 2,774 meters (9,101 feet) of drilling at the Pukelman and Blackjack target areas, are expected to provide additional insights into the resource potential at RC Gold and guide planning for the 2025 exploration season.
