Yukon Metals Corp. Jan. 8 announced that geophysical surveys conducted over its 7,000-hectare (17,300 acres) Birch property in Yukon, Canada, have identified several high-priority drill targets, including zones of strong conductivity and chargeability that align with surface soil and rock anomalies spanning the length of the prospect.
Acquiring its portfolio of mineral exploration properties in early 2024, Yukon Metals Corp. has steadily positioned itself within Yukon's mining sector. Among its 17 properties spanning 18,000 hectares (44,478 acres) across Yukon, the Birch project has stood out as a promising target for copper and gold mineralization.
Located roughly 65 kilometers (40 miles) northeast of Burwash Landing, Birch hosts a 1,400-meter copper-gold anomaly that has shown promising mineralization potential.
Following its acquisition of Birch, Yukon Metals initiated a targeted exploration program in 2024 to evaluate the extent of the property's mineralized systems. This included soil and rock-chip sampling program, which revealed significant results of up to 0.99 grams per metric ton gold and 2,310 parts per million copper-in-soils, with rock-chip samples yielding as high as 14.1 g/t gold.
Completing eight electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) and induced polarization (IP) geophysical surveys over the eastern portion of the 2024 soil-sampled copper and gold anomaly, this work revealed zones of strong conductivity and chargeability that aligned with surface results, suggesting the presence of sulfide mineralization in skarn horizons.
These surveys also culminated in the identification of new high-priority drill targets, highlighting areas of significant potential mineralization below the surface. Additionally, the company said that the data from these surveys will guide its next phase of exploration at Birch.
"With this geological survey program, which includes induced polarization, surface mapping, and soil and rock sampling programs, Yukon Metals is closer to uncovering the mineral potential of the highly prospective Birch Property," said Yukon Metals President and CEO Rory Quinn. "The next step will be to commence drilling at Birch, targeting mineralized skarn horizons."
